Billy Mumby Memorial Football Match

Billy Mumby Memorial Football Match

News Description

Matt Curtis and the other friends of Billy Mumby are organising a Charity Football match in Billy’s memory. Billy passed away from Ewing’s Sarcoma at just 21 years old. Billy was a football fanatic who played for 2 clubs throughout his life and his friends can think of no better way of remembering him than through a football match made up of his friends and former teammates. The event will take place on 9th July at Belton Recreation Ground and will involve a raffle, penalty shootout, BBQ and bake sale as well as the football match.

Billy was only 18 when he was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2016 when he was at the start of a promising career in teaching, loving playing football and spending time with friends and family. His was turned upside down as he started treatment with chemotherapy, major surgery and radiotherapy. Billy went into remission in 2018, but the cancer returned only a month later and Billy had to fight it once more. Devastatingly, despite his courage and bravery Billy passed way in September 2019 and left a gaping hole in the hearts of his friends, family and community.

Billy was a compassionate and caring person, who deeply loved his friends and family and would help anyone in need. I know he would love to continue to help others, and with this fundraiser in aid of ESRT we can help to fund vital research into novel treatments to find a cure for this terrible disease and help young people, like Billy, to live a normal life.
